Welcome to Personal Retreat Day!

Welcome to Personal Retreat Day! I’m Wende, and I’m so glad you found your way here. On this site you’ll find lots of tips and advice for creating what I believe to be one of the most powerful practices for self-care: a monthly Personal Retreat Day.

I first learned how to do a Personal Retreat Day (or “PRD” for short) from my dear friend and mentor, Terri Miller, in 2012. I attended Terri’s PRD workshop during cultural training for an international ministry organization. Because living and working internationally is often so challenging, the organization strongly encouraged us to set aside one day a month for reflection, rest, and renewal. I remember coming away from Terri’s workshop excited about that prospect: One full day, just for me? Sign me up!

I started doing PRDs before we left the United States and continued to do so fairly regularly during our three years working overseas in France. Although we left the organization in 2016 and I no longer “had” to do PRDs, I found the practice to be so valuable that I continued to take PRDs in America. Believe me, I can tell the difference in the months when I let the habit slip! (And I’m pretty sure my family can as well!)

PRDs give me time and space to review the past, take stock of the present, and prepare for the future. This monthly practice gives me an opportunity to work on building positive changes in my life, and it gives me permission to let go of things that aren’t working or that are holding me back. During PRDs I take time to think about my key relationships and work on strategies to be more appreciative and compassionate. In short, PRDs make me a better human!

So what exactly IS a PRD? Basically, it’s a sacred day for you to connect with your inner self. During your PRD you should do whatever it takes to renew self-awareness and create space for “inner conversation.” Your PRDs might look different from mine, and that’s OK! You do you.

But what if you don’t know WHAT to do? That was my challenge when I first got started. After more than a decade of taking regular PRDs, I’ve figured out a routine that works for me. I’d love to share those strategies with you so that you too can benefit from this amazing practice.

That’s why I created this community: to help you discover the benefits of setting aside one day per month for rest, reflection, and reorientation. I’ll be sharing tips and ideas with you on my blog, and you can always reach out to me directly to explore personal coaching or to book me as a speaker.

As a special thank you for stopping by, I want to share a free assessment grid that I use each month on my own PRDs. This simple yet effective tool will help you reflect on the past month and look forward to the next. Click HERE to subscribe to my monthly newsletter and receive a link to download your free grid!
